THE Horn of Plenty hotel and restaurant in Gulworthy has recently appointed Scott Paton as head chef of the hotel's 2 AA rosette restaurant.

Scott (pictured right) brings more than nine years' experience to the role, having previously worked at the acclaimed Jack in the Green in Rockbeare near Exeter, alongside head chef Matt Mason. He won South West Chef of the Year in 2009, and was awarded 'Dessert of the Year' by the Association of Pastry Chefs in 2008.

Scott said: 'I am delighted to be appointed Head Chef at the Horn of Plenty. It's an incredibly exciting time and I am really enjoying making my mark.'

Scott has big plans for the Horn of Plenty, which has a rich food history spanning more than 40 years. Two former head chefs have achieved a Michelin Star and Scott is determined to be the third.

'Over the next five years, we want to see the Horn regain the Michelin Star it deserves. We also want to become one of the top 100 restaurants in the UK, with a reputation for everything from canapés to mains, to afternoon teas. We want to get everything as close to perfection as we can,' he said.

Scott heads a team of six chefs, taking charge of the kitchen, sourcing and menus. He has a number of cookery classes planned which will showcase his passion for pastry. A chocolate masterclass will be held in December and a bread and pastry class in March next year.

Regular themed events will highlight Scott's love of seasonal, local produce from the Westcountry. Events include a 'best of British beef' evening and a lobster and champagne evening.

Owners Julie Leivers and Damien Pease, who took over the hotel in June 2010 are delighted with the appointment.

'Scott brings an abundance of enthusiasm and he has a lovely personal style. He's already proving hugely popular with staff and guests alike,' said owner, Julie Leivers.

Some of Scott's favourite dishes currently on the menu include roasted venison with chicory jam, and milk chocolate mousse with banana and passion fruit parfait.
