Tavistock Ladies 1st XI 6 Newton Abbot 0 THIS was Tavistock?s first match after the Christmas break and spirits were high with all pleased to be back on the hockey pitch. Tavistock began the match with a strong presence that continued throughout the whole game. The first goal was scored in minutes. It came from White?s free hit at the top of the ?D?. She accurately found Gaspar who then superbly passed it to Miller who slipped it past the keeper with ease. The second half opened with superb passing from defence to midfield. Boulle crossed some excellent balls into the ?D?. Kate Eadie and Gabriella Murphy made some strong interceptions and Babs Horton, fighting fit from her injury, made some strong tackles. The second goal came from Honey who out paced the opposition and struck the ball with force from the side of the ?D?. By now there was no stopping Tavistock and the opposition were quickly becoming discouraged by the strong play from the home side. The ball hardly worried the Tavistock defence but on the odd time it did, Stapleton and Collar cleared it without any panic. Before long, Miller scored the third goal of the match. Butler took advantage of a quick free hit and struck the ball past the keeper. The last two goals of the match were scored by excellent play from Gaspar. This week Tavistock play their first league match of the new year against United Services at 10.30am at Bull Point, Plymouth.
