SEVEN hundred and twenty youngsters from West Devon primary schools gathered at the College of St Mark and St John for the ninth annual tag rugby festival.

Sponsored by Plymouth Citycoach and Vospers, the competition is the biggest of its kind in England.

Teams from Bere Alston and Mary Tavy primary schools were among the prize winners.

Linzi Tynan, Marjons sports centre manager, and her team have been organising the festival for three years. It's good for the schools, the youngsters and the Marjons students, she says.

'They get a chance to referee the matches and help in the organisation. It's a major event — with 720 schoolchildren, teachers and parents involved.

'We are very grateful to the sponsors. Their support makes the whole thing possible,' she said.

Rick Reynolds, representing Citycoach, was there to present prizes, along with Plymouth Albion director of rugby Graham Dawe.
