A VILLAGE school described as 'caring and friendly' by Ofsted inspectors has been recognised as an Investor in People.

Lady Modiford's voluntary aided Primary School in Walkhampton is committed to the development of the whole child.

Lady Modiford's have been recognised for their clear commitment to staff training and development and for creating an exceptional learning environment.

It was supported in its Investors in People journey by the Learning and Skills Council Devon and Cornwall.

'It is a real privilege to be recognised as an Investor in People.

It is something that we have all worked hard to achieve and something that we can point to as a real team effort,' said head teacher Jim Knight.

Since committing to the Standard in May 2000, the school has received a glowing Ofsted report and raised results in writing and maths.

There was a ten per cent increase in the school's maths result after a review of last year's papers by one member of staff identified some common errors.

Opened in 1719, the school has just 110 pupils all aged between four and eleven on its roll.

The school has 15 staff members, including six teachers, all of whom have been involved in various in-house and external training schemes.
