PARENTS across Devon will soon be able to apply for a primary or secondary school place for their children on-line. Devon County Council is improving the on-line schools admissions programme it has pioneered over the past two years. The aim is to improve services and choice for parents across the county. Last year ? in the first year when both primary and secondary admissions were offered on-line ? nearly one fifth of secondary applications and almost a quarter of primary applications were made electronically. The launch of the new service is timed to coincide with the publication of The First Step and Next Step booklets which give families information and advice about choosing a primary or secondary school. The booklets are being made available to parents across the county over the next few weeks on the Devon County Council website http://www.devon.gov.uk/admissions">www.devon.gov.uk/admissions They can also be obtained in hard copy from the relevant primary school or the School Admissions Team at County Hall. They contain information to enable parents to apply for a secondary school place for September 2007 or a primary place in September 2007 or January 2008. The booklets contain all the relevant forms to apply for a place if the parent chooses not to apply on-line. But, by logging on to http://www.devon.gov.uk/admissions">www.devon.gov.uk/admissions, parents and carers will be able to apply for a place at one of Devon?s 37 secondary schools and 320 primaries electronically. They will also be able to obtain information on the schools themselves, the admission rules and the whole admission process.
