TAVISTOCK College has energy at its heart this week as the whole school launches its support for a year of community fundraising for solar panels.

On Saturday the college is hosting Transition Tavistock's Energy Savers' Eco Fair in the main hall from 10am to 4pm.

The event is free to enter and offers visitors the chance to talk to more than twenty exhibitors from around the area with advice on conserving energy, renewable energy, woodfuel, electric vehicles and more.

A programme of practical talks and workshops will run throughout the day, and an information and activity area for younger visitors is available. Soup, cakes and drinks will be served all day at the pop-up café.

Exhibitors include New Generation Energy (NGE), DARE (Devon Action for Renewable Energy and Celtic Renewable Energy.

EV Friendly and EV Motion will bring along electric vehicles and charging points and Plymouth Energy Community and the Community Council of Devon will talk to visitors about energy switching and an oil buying co-operative.

There will be a range of natural and innovative building materials and insulation from Mike Wye and Mantle Panels, Cozy Homes, Green Hus and RegenSW have information on making your homes more energy efficient (retrofit) and Elaine Stoves, Shields DIY, NGE, Liz's Logs and others can advise on wood stoves and boilers, woodfuel and its management. LED lighting will also be on display together with a number of local community initiatives.

Talks and workshops will include: Understanding your energy bills and heating controls; Reduce your bills by switching; Treatment of listed and traditional buildings, DIY draught busting and secondary glazing; Insulating solid walls and thermal plastering; The ins and outs of micro-renewables; Heat pump and biomass technologies, and 'Saving money with an electric vehicle'.
