A PROFESSIONAL photogropher from Lewdown has snapped up one of her industry's top national awards, thanks to her portrayal of 'one man and his dog' from Lifton. Sam Clark, of Farlap Photography in Lewdown, was named top UK sports photographer 2007 by the British Professional Photographers' Association, when it held its award ceremony in London last week. Sam, 40 who runs her own photography business, decided to be a bit different this year and submitted images of field sports — it was her image of 'Bill', a working Labrador belonging to Graham Mackriell, of Portgate, that clinched the competition for the UK section. Sam, who has been a professional photographer for 19 years, was thrilled to win the award along with a Canon camera. She told the Times: 'I think it was because my images were a bit different from the normal football and motor racing shots that are usually associated with sports photography. 'There were some excellent shots of the Formula 1 Grand Prix and the Grand National but the judges picked mine — I am thrilled because in a way it's a victory for field sports. 'I don't do much sports photography so this was a bit out of my league and it was a real surprise.' When Sam told Graham, he was delighted that his Bill was top dog when it came to winning the nation's top sports picture award. Bill obviously made a big splash with the judges!
