South Zeal Utd 4

Tipton StJohn 2

HAVING recorded their first league win of the season by defeating top of the table Woodbury 6-2 away two weeks ago, Zeal doubled their points tally for the season to six when they won at home on Saturday.

Zeal took the lead after 15 minutes when Steve Pillivant controlled a difficult ball 30 yards from goal and vollyed a tremendous shot over the Tipton keeper. On the half hour Zeal went two up when Roger White beat the keeper from close range with a well taken header.

Although Zeal were well worth their lead at half-time the visitors were always dangerous and caused the Zeal defence problems with high balls into the penalty area which were well dealt with by Reg Wonnacott and John Halliday in the Zeal defence.

For the first 30 minutes of the second half Zeal were well in control and increased their advantage to four goals when Lee Gilbert struck a fine shot from the edge of the visitors' penalty area.

Harley Cann made it four with a fine individual effort, having beaten several Tipton players in the penalty area before unleashing a tremendous shot that gave the keeper no chance.

The referee gave Harley Cann a red card for what his team felt was one of the best tackles in the game and previously sent off a Tipton defender.

Tipton rallied and scored two good goals near the end. They could have had another but for a great save by Adam Cann in the Zeal goal.

This week home to Clyst Valley, 3pm kick-off.
