Okehampton 3

OKEHAMPTON men's hockey team produced an excellent team effort on Saturday.

Okehampton played down the slope in the first half, pinning the home side back. But Falmouth produced the first goalscoring opportunity when Okehampton were caught out in defence. Andy Harvey in goal did enough to force the Falmouth player wide and prevent him scoring.

Okehampton opened the scoring when Robert Duffy took on the defence. His accurate cross gave Simon Garland the chance to turn and shoot. The second goal followed soon after when Steve Sage took his chance well.

The second half found Okehampton under the cosh, but they defended admirably. The halves and forwards worked hard to create openings for the defence to clear their lines, and the goal was rarely threatened.

Okehampton made the game safe when Sage added to his tally, following up a half save from the Falmouth keeper.

Plymouth 1

ON Sunday Okehampton were hosts to second in the league Plymouth A

Play was even early on, with both sides having their share of chances. Garland's jinking run on the left wing took on the Plymouth defence and gave him the chance to draw the Plymouth keeper out of position. He crossed the ball to Chris Luxton, who hammered it into the net to open the scoring.

Plymouth's reply was not long in coming and they equalised from a deflected short corner.

Okehampton regained the lead moments before half-time. Garland won a short corner, Robert Duffy stopped it and Richard Jones picked his spot with perfection to beat the keeper.

The second half saw the Okehampton defence soaking up pressure and frustrating the Plymouth forwards.

Okehampton added a third goal when Garland followed up a Luxton strike that was only half cleared by the Plymouth defence.

This week Okehampton play Plymouth A in a rearranged league game in Plymouth.
