I AM a new resident living in Tavistock. The beautiful town and what it has to offer attracted me to uproot to come and live in this area. Having everything right on my doorstep is wonderful, I feel extremely lucky and find everyone so friendly.

The walks I take around the park are such a joy, hearing the beautiful birds singing and seeing the ducks in the river and canal. How sad it is to see the rubbish that is so needlessly thrown into the river and canal.

On my walk yesterday (May 15) I was very upset to see the rubbish thrown in the canal by the side of the skateboard park.

I noticed a large group of youths all very happily chatting, sitting on the bench inside the skate park and below them in the canal were bottles and plastic bags. This obviously had been thrown in the canal from there.

This morning I made a point of visiting the skateboard park and found there are no rubbish bins provided there. Only a sign on the gate saying please put rubbish in the bag.

Having the skateboard park there is wonderful for the youths. It is great for them to have this facility which I am sure they appreciate.

It is just a great shame that they do not respect the beauty of the environment that so many other people enjoy.

It only takes a moment to dispose of rubbish properly so to those concerned, please do so in the future.

If rubbish bins were placed in the skateboard park this hopefully would encourage this to happen.
