ROYAL British Legion A travelled to West Devon B for their last league match of the season and encountered a West Devon side punching above their weight.
West Devon's John Smith turned in one of his best performances of the season to beat RBL's Wickett. Ryall played some delightful snooker to pull RBL level. West Devon's Gilchrist could only sit and admire as Ryall wrapped up the frame with a feast of potting which included a 17 and two 30 breaks. Moule nearly put WD in front again but RBL's skipper Stewart held his nerve to take it on the black. John Rich despite a gritty performance was unable to hold Grylls who made it three for Legion. Bath produced another typically canny frame to beat Woods to claim the last frame as a consolation for West Devon. This game secured a commendable third spot for RBL A and enough for West Devon to take them out of the bottom two league slots.
Conservative C entertained Conservative D for their respective last game of the season and ran out comfortable 4-1 winners. Bassett had no problems with Palmer to put Con C one up. Skipper Jago had his chances it was Wilkinson who took the balls that mattered to pull the D team level. From then on it was all down hill for the D team as Hoare and Holmes had no answer to the power of Ewings and Andrews respectively. A battle in a final frame ensued but it went to the C team's Neale edging out Day in a black ball drama. This result left Con C in mid table but Con D finished the season firmly rooted to the bottom of the table.
This week the teams take part in the Jack May KO Shield.
