TWO Tavistock men have raised more than £2,000 for charity by running the New York City Marathon on November 5.
Richard Fuller, 18, and Jeremy Westmore, 27, were among around 500 runners who contributed to Get Kids Going — a charity which provides sports wheelchairs for the disabled. The two had been collecting sponsors over the last seven months.
Both succeeded in completing the race from the Statue of Liberty, around the city and ending in Central Park. Jeremy came in 5,647th out of almost 30,000, finishing in a creditable three hours 43 minutes.
'It was brilliant,' he said. 'There was a lot of atmosphere and it was really the best way to see the city - we saw more of it that day than on all seven days of our holiday.'
Richard was unlucky to suffer a foot injury after 14 miles forcing him to stop for first aid. He eventually walked to the finish in around four hours.
He was disappointed because he had been on track for doing the marathon in three and a half hours before the injury.
