TAVISTOCK Athletic Club?s premier autumn road race, the Tavy 7, is being held on Sunday, November 12. Always a popular event, last year?s race was one of the best ever, selling out two weeks beforehand and attracting praise from every quarter. It even received coverage in the UK?s number one running magazine, Runners World, being voted number 28 in the top 100 road races for 2005 by its readers. This year?s event promises to be bigger and better. The entry limit has been increased to 700 to cope with demand. The seven-mile, gently undulating course, will be the same. Runners will again receive a Brooks technical T-shirt and there is a new challenge to tempt the fast runners into the race. Anyone who creates a new male or female course record will be offered a pair of Brooks top-of-the-range running shoes. There will also be a series of spot prizes and post-race refreshments in race headquarters. There is also a Fun Run over a 1.5-mile ?off-road? course. Last year the organisers were overwhelmed with the turnout for this as over 200, mainly youngsters, took part. The event is again being sponsored by estate agent Mansbridge and Balment and Brooks. There are two new sponsors for 2006: Abbey Garden Machinery and The Rosemont B&B in Yelverton. You can find out more from the event website http://www.tavy7.com">www.tavy7.com where you can also download an entry form. Forms for the main race must be submitted by Friday November 3 and no entries will be taken on the day. Proceeds from this year?s race will go directly into Tavistock AC?s ?Track Fund? which has been established to raise money for the planned athletics track which is to be built on the Tavistock College site.
