ATHLETES from Bere Alston are hosting a unique charity run in aid of the Royal British Legion next month.

Organised by Bere Alston Trekkers (BATs) the run will be over 11.11 miles on November 11 — Remembrance Day, marking the date of the end of the first world war in 1918. It will take in five war memorials at which the runners will pay their respects.

Starting at the old RAF Harrowbeer memorial site at Yelverton, the route will take in Crapstone, Horrabridge, Walkhampton, Sheepstor, Meavy and back to Yelverton.

Dotty Allan, of BATS, said: 'It will be the only time in our life times that this run can be done on 11-11-11 and presents the club with the opportunity to support what is a very worthwhile cause which has suffered over the last few years with attention being given to other armed forces charity causes.

'The Royal British Legion continues to support our HM Forces young and old and plays a major part in the repatriation of troops from Afghanistan.'

The club is hoping to reach their target of £1,111.11 to support the charity.

Please note — this is a charity running event and not a race and those taking part will be running as one group and only as fast as the slowest runner.  If you would like to take part in this unique event, visit http://www.berealstontrekkers.btck.co.uk">www.berealstontrekkers.btck.co.uk for an entry form and further details.
