2004 was a good year for Tavistock Athletic Club. The way things are looking after January?s performances 2005 looks set to be even better. Juniors and seniors alike have already notched up some great achievements and the club looks set to pull off even more amazing results. As previously reported the club was very successful at the Devon County Cross Country Championships ? with 6 of the club?s athletes selected to represent their county at the upcoming Inter-County Championships to be held in Nottingham. Tom Lawson, Jake Rendle and Laura Aspen are in the under 13 team which is great reward not only for the athletes but also for their coaches, Robin Musgrave and Carrie Lawson. Adam Holland makes the county team again in the under 20 category and new member Jim Coles goes straight into the senior men?s team after his stunning performance in the counties at Exeter last month. Fiona Dunn has made the senior ladies team after her great result which caps a most successful cross country season. Last weekend Peter Bazley and Adam Holland made the long trip north to Helsby in Cheshire to run in the Four Villages Half Marathon. Both returned with new personal bests, Peter completing his race in 1:29:33 with Adam flying home in 1:19:18. Also aiming for personal bests are 14 of the club?s athletes who will be taking part in this year?s London Marathon in April. Also, last weekend saw the juniors reclaiming number one spot in the Devon Sportshall League. Having been knocked off their perch after the 2nd meeting in November a large, determined team made the trip to Dawlish and pulled off some impressive results which saw the club leap frog over both North Devon and Exeter to sit proudly at the top again. With two more meetings left in the series it will be a close battle for the trophy which Tavistock won last year.
