TAVISTOCK and Callington were two of the destinations for the 120 mile St Luke's Hospice 'Run the Shops' relay 2012.

To mark the charity's 30th anniversary and with the Olympic year theme in mind, groups of runners carried a torch from the hospice in Plymouth on a three-day run to St Luke's charity outlets in the Plymouth, South and West Devon and East Cornwall area to raise money for the hospice.

The runners, many from local athletic clubs, were escorted by organiser Barry Hopper and Mark Wilcox while Barry's wife Sandra was in the back-up car. They collected donations along the way.

On Thursday they set off from St Luke's in Turnchapel and took in shops, including those at Yealmpton and Kingsbridge.

The second day they left Plympton and went via Crownhill to Tavistock, where they went to their shops in Brook Street, Paddon's Row and Duke Street. Despite the weather the runners then ran to Launceston before finishing at Callington.

On the Saturday they headed to Saltash before running to Plymouth city centre where St Luke's have their new store.

The hospice needs to raise the £6-million it currently costs, to ensure the hospice can give palliative care to the 3,200 patients they will treat this year.
