St Just 5 Tavistock 54 DESPITE not producing the champagne rugby that coach Chris Greatrex had called for during the week, Tavistock did complete an eight try demolition of St Just. Tavistock made hard work of the first 20 minutes when they were unable to capitalise on field position and possession. The forwards continued to work hard and with Andy Hunt and Darren Cole dominating the lineout and supplying good clean possession half backs Lee Greatrex and Josh Sutton kept probing the St Just defence. The pressure eventually paid off and Tavistock ran in four tries by half time. The first score fell to Richard Huish who ran into a cross field kick from Josh Sutton to score in the corner. The second and third tries were all forward affairs. Firstly, after being awarded a penalty, Tavistock kicked for the corner and from the ensuing lineout a catch and drive saw flanker Matt Cole crashing over. The second was a penalty try when pressure exerted by the Tavistock scrum saw St Just penalised for disengaging in the front row. The final score of the half came from full back Kyle Langdon who crossed over on the right. Josh Sutton converted three of the first half scores. Playing against the wind and slope in the second half, Tavistock were forced to run the ball out of defence and this they did effectively using their speedy outside backs. Again Tavistock scored four tries in the half and they came from Lee Greatrex (2), Mike Lyddon and Lawrence Evans, on as a replacement for Richard Huish. Josh Sutton converted all the second half tries. St Just grabbed a consolation try via Jimmy Weston. The end of the match saw club coach Chris Greatrex and chairman Steve Langdon on as replacements making it a family affair with their sons Lee and Kyle. This victory puts Tavistock in good heart for the visit of Kingsbridge, who are currently two places above them in the league, to Sandy Park on Saturday. Kick off 3pm.
