WITH the generous help of the people of Tavistock and district, the Rotary Club of Tavistock last year raised almost £14,000 to aid those people affected by the tsunami in South East Asia. This money went to provide Shelterboxes, providing clean water and tents etc. The other fund-raising efforts of the Rotary Club took place as usual, especially the stalls at Goose Fair and the Christmas collection. At a recent meeting, last year?s president, Edwin Clark, was pleased to donate £800 to two local charities, Children?s Hospice South West and Heartswell. The Children?s Hospice in North Devon is currently raising funds to build a second hospice near Bristol. Heartswell provides assistance to the cardiac unit at Derriford Hospital and has a lodge to accommodate patients? families. Heartswell is hoping to build an extension to the lodge so that more families can be helped. In Septemer, the Inner Wheel Club of Tavistock, together with the Rotary Club, held a cream tea in the parish centre to celebrate the tenth anniversary of the Children?s Hospice at Little Bridge House in North Devon. Again the people of Tavistock showed their generosity and £315 was raised.
