A TEAM from the Rock Inn at Yelverton were among 280 swimmers of all shapes, size and abilities who took part in the Breakwater Swim in Plymouth on Sunday, organised by the Chestnut Appeal for prostate cancer.
The Rock Inn team was also swimming the two and a half mile challenge for Elsa’s Journey, a small, local group raising money for CLIC Sargent, named after young leukaemia sufferer Elsa Kendell who has been an inspiration to the community.
’Conditions couldn’t have been better and although it was physically one of the hardest things I’ve ever done in my life, I’m so stubborn that there was no way I was giving up!’ said team member Kay Probert. ’I think that all of us had the charities, and especially our girl Elsa, at the forefront of our minds, which definitely helped to spur us on.
’It was a bit of a shock to arrive at Tinside beach, which was heaving with people, only to realise that our legs had turned to jelly and refused to work. All swimmers who completed the challenge received a medal and a ridiculous amount of cheering and hugs.
’The Rock Inn team has so far raised around £1,600 and we couldn’t be more proud!’
