A WEST Devon barman has been showing off more than just his moustache for Movember, starring in his own risqué calendar for charity.

Twenty-eight-year-old Joe Kinsey, from Brentor, has made a ‘tongue-in-cheek’ naked calendar with various themes for each month, while conveniently placing props and positioning his body to protect his modesty.

The ‘Average Joe’s Movember 2017 Calendar’ was on sale over the weekend as part of the Movember party at the Rock Inn in Yelverton, where Joe works, raising money and awareness for prostate cancer.

Joe said the idea started as a joke last year. ‘We had to do Secret Santa at work and I was struggling for ideas. I joked about getting someone a framed photo of myself but ended up getting a calendar of animals and cute guys. My girlfriend Abi suggested I should make a calendar of myself for the next year.

‘The idea of a calendar was brought up in a staff meeting and my boss liked it and offered to sponsor it, so I decided to do it for Movember to coincide with our Movember Party at the pub.’

Movember sees men growing moustaches (or ‘moes’) throughout the month of November to raise money and awareness for men’s cancers and mental health.

The calendar includes pictures of Joe behind the bar, relaxing on holiday, throwing around bottles of gin, a couple of wintery themed pitures and one with a hunting theme.

‘There’s one picture of me posing with my girlfriend’s horse,’ he said. ‘Kind of Brokeback Mountain style — I’m not sure the horse was too impressed with it though. We also took some down at Burrator, but did it as the sun was going down so as not to surprise any walkers. The calendar is supposed to be quite funny and light hearted — I didn’t want it to be too serious.’

Joe said he ordered 30 copies of the calendar and sold 28 over the weekend at £10 each at the Movember party and the Rock Inn’s Christmas fair on Sunday.

‘We’ve raised quite a lot of money — £340 so far and I have already got some orders for Christmas. I’ve also done very well from people who I wouldn’t have expected to buy it, like a couple of the old guys who regularly drink in the pub — they could see the funny side of it. It’s been quite successful — I’m really proud of it!’

Joe said he may already be planning a calendar for next year for which he hopes to get some other people involved.

Anyone who would like a copy of the calendar can contact the Rock Inn directly or send an email to [email protected] with their contact details.
