A PUB landlord in Okehampton has completed an amazing personal challenge to raise £4,500 for a charity close to his hard.
Rob Bass, landlord of the King's Arms, has suffered from multiple sclerosis for the last 18 years. He has worked hard to raise money for the MS Society with numerous events at the pub, including a charity auction, calendar and ladies' night.
Back in April, Rob took his fundraising to another level as he took on a dogsled ride from Tromsø in Norway to the Ice Hotel in Jukkasjärvi, Sweden.
Travelling hundreds of kilometres, he battled against the cold and physical challenges presented by his condition to complete the challenge. Having now counted the majority of donations, he has raised £4,500.
Rob said: 'It is the hardest thing I have ever done in my life. On the first day I thought I was going to die. At the end of it once we had reached Sweden, I felt like I could do it again!
'I am now looking at the next challenge. With my MS, the cold conditions suit me better than punishing heat, but it would be hard to find a cold challenge to top this, so I will have to have a think.'
