Devonport Services Colts 29 Tavistock Colts 6 TAVISTOCK expected a hard game against a side arguably the best in Devon and were not disappointed. Tavistock?s gritty defence and no-nonsense tackling stood them in good stead and, whilst four tries were conceded, countless attacks were repelled. Tavistock created enough attacking opportunities to consider themselves unlucky not to have touched down. Their points came from two penalties from the boot of skipper Vanstone. All the pack showed a real hunger for the ball and no-one more than Dave Vince who earned his man of the match award for his leadership skills and communication as he called plenty of successful back row moves. Thompson at scrum half looked back to his best in attack and defence. Flanker Tom Friend worked tirelessly, putting in tackles on the flying wingers complemented by excellent handling in attack. Dan Smith cleared his lines with well judged kicks assisted by some brave defence by full back Stuart Honey playing in an unaccustomed role. Prop Lawrence Millett elected to run the ball out of defence on occasion and gained good ground with second row Ben Walshe supporting well. The big Services back row spent a frustrating afternoon being tackled to the floor, usually by Rob Shutler, a winger turned hooker for the day and half their size.
