PROPOSALS to extend speed limits at Callington and Gunnislake are being considered as part of a review by Cornwall Council.
But whereas plans to extend the 40mph on the A390 Callington bypass where it meets with Liskeard Road have been supported by Callington Town Council, the proposals for the Calstock parish have been criticised by parish councillors.
Responding to a public consultation exercise, which ended last Friday, Calstock Parish Council said there was 'no rational given for expensive tinkering on a few isolated bits of road'. It was referring to the extension of the 30mph speed limit on Calstock Road and Well Park Road and Stony Lane.
But Calstock Road, which is currently 60mph, has been the source of complaints about speeding and the police have welcomed it being included in the proposals which are are part of the A390 Gunnislake to Liskeard speed limit review. Callington Town Council have asked that St Germans Road be reduced from 40mph to 30mph from the junction of Southern Road past the entrance to the playing fields.
