FURTHER details for a revised plan of roadworks on the A3072 in West Devon have been announced.

The original programme would have seen an eleven-week road closure on the A3072 between Jacobstowe and Sampford Courtenay.

Full resurfacing and improvements to the existing road drainage of this five kilometre stretch of highway was programmed for mid-February, with works being carried out under a number of road closures that would have seen the road closed for eleven weeks.

However, after listening to concerns from local businesses and residents, an alternative solution which still provided a safe environment for the workforce has been agreed.

As a result the council has been able to reduce the eleven-week closure to just one week.

The closure is scheduled from Monday, April 7 to Saturday, April 13.

Works to the narrowest sections of the highway between Sampford Courtenay and Jacobstowe will still need to be undertaken during this one week closure, with the remainder of the works being carried out under traffic lights with a temporary ten mile per hour speed limit and quad bike convoy vehicle.

Works will start on March 3, with an anticipated finish of April 25.

While this alternative way of working will cause long delays, it does mean that the road can remain open for the remainder of the programme.

There will also be a 40 mile per hour speed limit on the A3072 from the junction with B3216 at Jacobstowe going in a south westerly direction for 250 metres, and from the A3124 at Sampford Courtenay going south easterly for 250 metres.
