THE turret and bell of the Church of the Holy Spirit in Milton Combe are to be renovated later this year, and parishioners are busy raising the necessary money.
The church comes under the same parochial church council as Buckland Monachorum church, and was built as an outreach of the Buckland church around 120 years ago.
It was during the quinquennial inspection that it was discovered the work was needed. The vicar, the Rev Graham Cotter, said there was just a single bell in the turret, but people appreciated hearing it up through the valley.
The cost of the restoration is expected to be around £4,000 to £5,000. Mr Cotter said there were small grants of a couple of hundred pounds available, such as from the Drake Trust, but the bulk of the money would be raised by parishioners.
The next fundraising effort is a jumble sale in Buckland Village Hall on April 5 at 2pm. Offers of jumble would be appreciated. The contact numbers for this are 01822 853482 or 852088.
