A WINKLEIGH boy is stepping out of his older sister?s shadow and achieving great success in equestrian circles. Chris Pyle, 13, riding Katie?s Beaujest has recently triumphed at a tetrathlon event at Cotleigh near Axminster, and also finished best out of both boys and girls at the South Devon Moorland Pony Club junior event at Bovey Tracey. Tetrathlon involves running a 1,500m cross country course, pistol shooting, three minutes of swimming and riding a cross country course. After finishing eighth at a prestigious area tetrathlon at Stockland Lovell near Wadebridge, Chris?s season has gone from strength to strength with a third, a second and now two firsts. Katie?s Beaujest was previously older sister Lizzie?s first eventing horse but she has now progressed to a new horse called Labelle and continues the Broadwoodkelly family?s competitive urge. Last weekend, Lizzie, 17, also went to Stockland Lovell where she was competing in a regional qualifier for an eventing championship in Shropshire this October. Mum Jacqui Pyle said her son?s interest in riding was a very recent development. ?A year ago, he wouldn?t jump even the smallest jump, and now he has totally changed. Every event we go to, people say ?That can?t be Chris?.?
