A CHARITY horse ride to support a Tavistock child?s autism treatment will take place on Dartmoor next month. Paul Lewis?s language and interactive skills have improved dramatically since he started on the American Son-Rise Program last year. This is the second year that Paul?s parents Allen and Sheena have organised a charity horse ride and have gained support from all across the country. Two rides on May 7 will take place simultaneously at 11am ? one from the East Dart Hotel at Postbridge, ending up back in the village after a 15-mile round trip, for refreshments at Soussons. The other starts from Will Farm, Peter Tavy to the Dartmoor Inn at Merrivale and back. There is an entrance fee of £10 and all riders will get a medal on completion. A specially designed playroom where eight volunteers carry out the principles of the Son-Rise Program with Paul was built with funds donated from the Tavistock community. The system encourages eye contact and builds rapport through intensive one to one play with no distractions. A year ago Paul could not say a word but he can now say well over 100 words and ask for what he wants. ?Paul is moving on all the time ? Son Rise has worked for him and we want to raise as much awareness of this program as possible so other children can benefit,? said Allen. The money raised will pay for a specialist Son-Rise facilitator to come and work with Paul in his playroom. Anyone who wants to take part in the ride can contact Allen Lewis on 01822 614335 or 07749 798808.
