AN expert on Devon's heritage will be giving an interesting and exciting talk on the making of Roadford Lake and its heritage in October.

Twenty five years ago a team of archaeologists began a series of exciting excavations in the Roadford Valley in advance of the construction of South West Water's new reservoir. Their discoveries revealed the remains of a lost medieval village and helped to inspire the Channel Four 'Time Team' programmes.

Simon Timms is an expert on Devon's heritage and an entertaining speaker. He helped organise these archaeological investigations at Roadford and in his talk he will be looking back on the public debate over the building of the reservoir as well as giving a firsthand account of the heritage that was discovered there.

Simon is a past president of the Devon Archaeological Society, he has served as a trustee of the National Trust and is currently chairman of the Heritage Lottery Fund's SW Committee.

The event will take place on October 11 and will run from 11am to 4pm and will cost £6 per head, followed by a pasty lunch included in the price.

An optional extra is a ferry ride after lunch around the lake with Simon followed by a Devon cream tea costing £14 per head.
