OKEHAMPTON Rugby Club held a special reunion to celebrate its 125 year anniversary last weekend.

Around 150 current and ex-players attended the event, which featured a picture gallery of times gone by, as well as a buffet.

Former members, who included the oldest who was 88 years old, also enjoyed watching the game in the afternoon.

Committee member of Okehampton Rugby Club, and president of the Devon Rugby Football Union, Max Turner, said it was an emotional day for everyone.

He said: 'The turnout was excellent and everyone had such a great day.

'Seeing old comrades from years ago with tears in their eyes was quite something.

'It was so nice for some of the oldest ex-players to meet the young lads.'

Mr Turner expressed thanks to everyone who helped volunteer on the day.

'Everyone really pulled together and it was a fantastic turnout.

'Four generations of the Turner family showed up.

'My son came home from London with his daughter, my brother was also there and my uncle, who was one of the oldest ex-members and also the captain of the club back in the 50s.

'The point of it was the history of the club — and the history is the people.'
