WE are constantly urged, and rightly so, to give respect to cyclists on the road and I do. But respect must work both ways and today, Monday, June 9, at 8.50am, while I was negotiating the mini roundabout to go up Drake Road, a cyclist came shooting out of West Street against the one way signs. This perfectly accoutred lady cyclist with her helmet, gloves and lycra should know that she, in her turn, must respect the Highway Code and not cycle one-way streets in the wrong direction. She is not the only cyclist to use West Street as a short cut. But respect must go both ways and, with our laws that favour cyclists, I would probably have been deemed at fault had I hit her despite the several amazed witnesses working on the scaffolding on the corner!
