GERMANSWEEK golfer Terry Steer said representing Great Britain in the Audi Cup World Final at Vilamoura in Portugal last weekend was ?a dream come true?.

Terry and partner Peter Lesser, who is from Up Exe, had netted 4th and 3rd places in the Exeter Audi Woodbury Park Golf Club event in May ? one of 50 qualifying tournaments staged in which almost 3,000 golfers competed. They then finished a close second at the Forest of Arden Golf Club in the UK final.

They were one of 61 pairs representing 38 countries at the Portugal event, which was won by Argentina.

Terry and Peter finished 16th, with Terry holing a five-wood to make par on one occasion and Peter scoring 65 points over the two days in the Stableford-scoring competition.

Terry ? a member of Okehampton Golf Club ? said the course ?suited big hitters, especially playing off the championship tees?.

?The two Argentinian ladies that won were off scratch, and they scored 80 points, while our handicaps are 12 and 13, so we can be proud of what we achieved.?

Terry said: ?I am a once a week player who has been thrashing a golf ball around for over 18 years, so to represent my country in such a prestigious competition was a dream come true.?

The Audi Quattro Cup is one of the world?s largest amateur golf competitions, with over 75,000 players from almost 40 countries competing in qualifying events.

This year?s event was played on the recently-opened 7,500 yard par 72 Victoria golf course, designed by Arnold Palmer, from off the championship tees in sunny and warm weather.

Peter said it was a ?massive, testing course and a huge occasion to see our names on the scoreboard with Great Britain and our flag alongside. We had a fantastic time?.
