TAVISTOCK Parish Church is holding three special services this coming Sunday and Monday for those who are bereaved .
The services in St Eustachius Church mark All Souls' Day — November 2 — when across the world, the Church remembers those who have died, and those who mourn them.
The Rev Michael Brierley, priest in charge of Tavistock and Gulworthy, said: 'There's something healthy about mentioning loss. Some people aren't sure what to say to the bereaved, and so steer clear of them, adding to their sense of isolation. These services sensitively acknowledge the loss without fumbling or embarrassment.'
The first service is at 6pm on Sunday, November 1, and features readings, music, and the opportunity to light a candle in memory of a loved one.
The second two services are communion services, at 12.30pm and 7.30pm on Monday, November 2, All Souls' Day itself.
Each evening service will be followed by tea and coffee in the church. At all three services, the names of loved ones will be read out in a special act of remembrance. Those who wish a particular person's name to be read out should feel free to let a member of the clergy know before the service begins.
'People who've been bereaved often tell me that the evenings are the hardest,' said Mr Brierley.
'As the nights draw in, and West Devon goes about its busy-ness, here are some services which offer a friendly face, a vision of hope, and light in the darkness.'
All are very welcome to attend.
