WAY back in the early 1970s, the classic southern rock group brought out their debut album ?Pronounced Leh-nerd Skin-nerd? ? it included the anthem ?Freebird? and went on to sell an amazing 26-million records. Tragically, several members of the band were killed in a plane crash in 1976 and the band never reformed until a decade later. Now, audiences at The Wharf in Tavistock can enjoy their feel-good Southern rock style thanks to Skinny Molly, which presents a unique tribute to the original band tonight (Thursday). Skinny Molly features Mike Estes, a former Lynyrd Skynyrd and Artemus Pyle Band guitarist. Long regarded as one of the South?s finest musicians, Mike wrote songs for The Rossington Collins Band as well as Lynyrd Skynyrd before he joined the latter group. Joining Mike in Skinny Molly is Garry Nutt on bass, an Englishman who joined the band after playing a gig with Mike in the US. Kurt Peitro plays drums while Keith Whalen, a profesional musician since the age of 16, plays guitar and provides back-up vocals. Skinny Molly provide an evening of the very best classic Southern rock and the ageless favourites like ?Sweet Home Alabama?, ?Mr Saturday Night Special? and ?Call Me the Breeze?. The band takes to the stage at 8pm. Tickets available from The Wharf box office on 01822 611166.
