Devon & Exeter League Premier Division Willand Rovers 3 Okehampton Argyle 2 AFTER creating at least ten goal-scoring opportunities, Argyle will be disappointed to come away from Willand pointless and now in much greater danger of relegation. A good start saw Paul Yip send a couple of right wing crosses across the Willand goal. The second was met by Mark Burdus, whose shot was blocked on the line. The rebound was hit back by James Williams, which was also blocked in the six yard box by a Willand defender, but with the assistance of a hand. The referee did award a penalty, which James Williams converted, but strangely the guilty defender was not shown a card of any colour. This was a big let off for Willand who worked hard to get back into the game. Their pressure paid off on the half hour when Dominic Harvey finished off a fine defence-splitting move to score in the bottom corner. Five minutes later, brother Keith Harvey completed a similar move to put Willand ahead for the first time. While at the other end Argyle?s luck was out when a shot from Steve Williams hit the upright and went out harmlessly for a goal kick Two minutes into the second half Argyle did equalise, and again it was the persistence of Steve Williams that was rewarded with a goal. He chased down a back pass to the keeper. A little hesitation between him and a defender just gave Williams time to challenge and charge down the ball and gratefully put it into the empty net. Argyle then had their best spell of the match, with shots from Kinsey and Williams being blocked on the line by either keeper or defender. This was followed by a cross from Yip and a header from Mark Burdus that the keeper somehow blocked from just two yards. Fifteen minutes from time Willand scored the all important goal, but again there was a question of doubt whether it should have been allowed. A free kick into the box was collected by keeper Leaman, but a mid-air challenge made him drop the ball, and Colin Butt was on hand to tap the ball over the line. Argyle have no match on Saturday, but travel to Topsham Town for a fixture on Monday, kick-off 6.30pm.
