Tavistock's Zest Youth Triathlon Club's Jordan Channon was selected to represent Triathlon England's South Western Region in the British Triathlon IR Championships.
Jordan, age 11, is in his first year in the Tristar 2 (age 11-12 yrs) and it was an incredible achievement to be one of two boys to be selected in his age group. It was a reward for Jordan who has consistently performed in training and at events to the very highest standard throughout the season.
Jordan is being recognised as one of the top Tristar Triathletes in this region as well as being in the top 22 boys in Great Britain, within his age group.
He joined a team of 14 (seven girls and seven boys) who had been selected from the counties of Cornwall, Devon, Dorset, Wiltshire, Avon, Somerset and Gloucestershire.
The event was held on Sunday at Parc Bryn Bach in Wales, which is one of the venues where the GB elite professionals compete.
Spectators saw the top 145 young 11-16 year old triathletes from the 11 regions of British Triathlon competing in the three disciplines of swim-bike-run.
Jordan started his race well and after a good 200 metre open water swim exited the lake in 11th place. He had a good transition taking his wetsuit off quickly and getting onto his bike to head off onto the technical four kilometre bike circuit.
He made up three places to come off the bike in eighth place. Next was a 1.8km run around the lake which saw Jordan in a sprint finish to end up in a superb equal fourth place out of the 22 boys from regions around Great Britain.
Jordan gave credit to Paul Chinn for all of the coaching he has given throughout the season.
