FACES from the past joined together at Northlew Silver Band's Guy Fawkes Carnival on Friday evening for a special reunion of carnival queens.

Twenty-nine past queens attended the event, which was blessed with warm weather, including the first ever queen 30 years ago Eileen Wilson (Parker.) The others were Sharon Dufty, Trish Rundle, May Burridge, Bridget Cole, Jean Adams, Winifred Davey, Jo Luxton, Clare Millership, Marjorie Brown, Julie Letchford, Joyce Dunn, Charlotte Davey, Susan Hawker, Caroline Friend, Marion Lester, Kirsty Lindsay, Julie Chick, Libby Adams, Natasha West, Phyllis Martin, Eleanor Dryden, Shirley Maynard, Kay Algar, Julie Andrew, Sarah Maynard, Jo Maynard, Angie Short and Tina Adams.

The entries in the fancy dress classes were of an excellent standard and showed a lot of ingenuity and work.

After the judging the procession around the village was led by Reverend John Peake and Reverend Stuart Wilson and accompanied by the Silver Band, which played several times during the evening — including a brilliant roll of drums.

The procession ended at The Square where a magnificent fire had been built in the middle.

The torches which had lit the way all around the village were then thrust into the fire, ferociously lighting up the square.

Refreshments were served by band members in the churchroom and hall and the school provided sweets from their stall.

The band is grateful to everyone who worked hard to organise the event which is a very important part of the Northlew calendar.
