WEST Devon's free new 'Saturday Bring' collections for garden waste and card are going down a storm, according to West Devon Borough Council which is spearheading the scheme. Northlew residents were this week among many householders who have enjoyed the convenience of this new pilot service for some of the more remote rural areas of the borough. All residents have to do is bring along their garden waste and thick card in suitable bags — old compost bags are ideal — to special collection points where a recycling vehicle and crew are on hand to take it away for composting. Already the crews have visited Leg-O-Mutton near Yelverton as well as Northlew and this Saturday, April 28, they will be at South Zeal Recreation Ground Car Park. Launch roadshows are being held at each of the three new Saturday Bring sites where residents can meet the council's recycling officers who are on hand to answer any recycling queries as well as give out free garden waste bags. Helen Dobby, West Devon's head of environmental services, said: 'The response we have had at the launch events at each location was beyond our expectations, and we can expect more from this service as residents settle into its routine throughout the next twelve months. Further dates for the bring service are in the new service guides recently delivered to all households.' If you want to use this service or are just curious about where your recycling goes, come and meet West Devon Borough Council's recycling team at the South Zeal event on Saturday from 9.30am to 2pm.
