TWO youngsters have won a competition to design innovative new logos with an environmental theme for a fleet of recently introduced recycling vehicles. Primary schools from across West Devon were invited to take part in the borough council competition. Following a huge response — and a difficult decision ‚ the council and Focsa, the council's waste collection contractors who commissioned the vehicles, presented the joint winners with their schools' cash prizes. Haze Curtis, 11, from Mary Tavy and Brentor Primary School, and Max Burgess, 12, formerly from Horrabridge Primary School, each received a cheque for £100 on behalf of their schools. The boys won great praise for their artistic endeavours which will spread the waste related environmental message all over the borough on a daily basis with their logos on the recycling trucks. Both boys are keen recyclers, and Max said: 'This might help make the world a better place.' The competition lived up to its expectations by bringing out the creative talents of the children and strengthening the reduce, re-use, recycle message. The council's recycling education officer Andrew Barron, said: 'The standard of the entries was very, very high. The response from the schools was quite staggering. 'The children have really excelled with this project, proving once again that they embrace any opportunity to become involved in bettering our environment. '
