LOADS of fun was to be found at RHS Garden Rosemoor in Great Torrington during last week's half term holiday, with the sun shining on the beautiful spring colours in the garden, and the fantastic opportunity for children to 'reduce, reuse and recycle' at rag rug making workshops held during the week. The Rag Rug Workshops held by Deborah Hastings taught children how to create rugs using pieces of coloured fabric recycled from unwanted clothes. Deborah said: 'Our current need to recycle and re- use resources is not new; the craft of rag rugging is an old one. 'People in the past would use old potato sacks and clothing to make rugs because they couldn't afford to buy new ones, whereas today we have a different — and even more pressing — need to recycle. 'Making your own rag rug is both environmentally friendly and extremely rewarding and everyone should have a go!' Deborah holds regular rag rug workshops for both adults and children at Rosemoor which are always extremely popular. She will be holding a 'drop-in' rag rug workshop at Rosemoor's Family Fun Day on Tuesday August 5. Call Rosemoor's events department on 01805 626800 for more information on Deborah's workshops, and other events regularly held at the garden.
