RECYCLER, the Rapping Robot, has been spreading the word about recycling in West Devon schools last week. His exciting, interactive show aims to educate children and their teachers about the three Rs — reduce, re-use and recycle — and shows them what they can do to make a difference and put the ideas into practice at home and at school. Ruth Chappell, education officer, said: 'Every household in the UK throws away over one tonne of waste each year and more than half of this can be recycled. Recycler raps to the children all about recycling and what they can do to help. 'The children quickly pick it up and join in — it's a great way to remember important messages and take them home.' Cllr Margaret Rogers, Devon County Council executive member for the environment, said: 'In Devon we are throwing away almost 400,000 tonnes of rubbish each year. 'We can all do our bit to reduce this as 60% of our waste could be recycled or composted and we are delighted to have Recycler the Rapping Robot in Devon schools to get this message across to children. 'We hope it will encourage them to think about how they can reduce, re-use and recycle their rubbish at home and at school. The Recycler programme is part of the national Recycle now communications campaign and is co- ordinated by WRAP (Waste and Resources Action programme) and Waste Watch, in partnership with the county council.
