IN 2003 she walked the length of Hadrian?s Wall. Last year she trekked 100 miles along the Cumbrian Way. Now, Dartmoor rambler Rebecca Harwood is facing her toughest challenge yet ? walking the 270-mile Pennine Way from south to north. Rebecca, 24, from Meavy, will be accompanied by her regular walking companion, her father, Geoffery, on the 14-day hike, starting on Saturday at Edale in the Peak District and ending at Kirk Yetholm. Geoffrey, who is 58 and a South West Water technician, is doing the walk just for fun. But Rebecca, an estate agent who works in the Elburton office of Alan Cummings and Co, is hoping to raise £1,000 for a local medical charity. She is supporting the Happy Hospital Children?s Fund, which aims to help young patients and their parents at Derriford Hospital have a less traumatic time. She chose the charity because she has a friend whose little girl was born prematurely, and spent a lot of time at the hospital. And although 270 miles in 13 days over rough and hilly terrain in all weathers is a stern challenge, she has taken steps to make it as enjoyable as possible. Instead of roughing it they will stay at comfortable, pre-booked B&Bs and hostels. Rebecca said: ?I?m looking forward to a pub meal and a good night?s sleep at the end of each day ? it?s just the walking bit in between . . . ?
