Exeter Chiefs U11s 0 Tavistock U11s 49 TAVISTOCK played their best rugby of the season in the wet and windy encounter at Exeter Chiefs. After defeat in a competitive game at Launceston by six tries to two, and an abandoned match at Crediton, Tavistock were keen to play in spite of the difficult conditions. Daniel Dobie for Tavistock opened the scoring with a driving run to the corner as the visitors made the most of the strong wind at their backs in the first half. Tavistock were playing some intelligent, unselfish rugby as time and again the forwards - with William Slater, Alex Ferguson and David Lloyd-Graeme all prominent in the loose ? linked with Tom Jackman, Barney Megicks and Luke Cummings in the backs. A hat-trick of tries for player of the match Charlie Charlton put the game beyond doubt. Adam Williams sniped well from scrum half and ran elusively for two tries. Ollie Straughan completed the scoring for Tavistock with an excellent drive, leaving a number of tacklers in his wake. Zak Brinkhurst, who constantly drove the forwards on and always looked to link the play, and Charlie Charlton shared the conversions. Against the wind in the second half, full back Dominic Hosking and Abi Donoghue for Tavistock took up sensible defensive positions to field the Exeter kicks, while Matthew Dobie put in some crunching tackles as Tavistock showed tremendous determination to keep their line intact. There then followed a shortened game against Salcombe. Again Tavistock took the game to their opponents, but in spite of some close calls including Dominic Hosking just being forced into touch in the act of scoring with the last play of the game neither team could break the deadlock and the match ended in a draw which was a fair reflection after a tight encounter. l This week Tavistock Colts are at home against Devonport Services.
