REAL Nappy Week is taking place this week (May 16 to 22) and is being supported by West Devon Borough Council and children's centres.
In Devon, a disposable nappy is thrown away almost every second. Andy Barron, West Devon's waste minimisation and recycling officer, said: 'Real nappies are now a viable alternative to disposables for your baby, the environment and your pocket. Trial kits are available too so why not give them a go?'
Currently, the UK throws away three billion disposables every year with 90% going to landfill; but real nappies not only divert waste from landfill, they can also be up to 40% better for the environment than using disposables, helping parents actively combat their carbon footprint. In addition parents can save at least £500 per child in real nappies.
Real nappy trial kits are available from Tavistock Children's Centre.
