RUNNERS are being invited to be on their marks for two moorland runs taking place on Dartmoor this weekend.
The Horseshoe Run takes place to tie in with Sticklepath flower show from 1pm on Saturday (August 14) and covers a route around the source of the River Taw. The run starts and finishes behind the Finch Foundry, taking in a 9.6-mile course which includes 1,700 ft climbing.
Organiser Phil Haygarth says he is happy to accept entries on the day. Entry costs £4 which goes to local causes.
The next morning there is the chance for a gentle run to recover as the Sourton Tor race takes place. Competitors have to run approximately two miles to the summit of the tor and back.
Runners in the Sourton Tor Race compete for the J Hockridge Challenge Cup and prizes . The event starts and finishes at Sourton Village Hall.
The current men?s record for the race to the summit and back, 11m.09, was set by N Jenkins in 2002, and the ladies? record, 16m.02, by G Evans in 2003.
Those wishing to enter are reminded that entries, £4 to village causes, close at 10.40am. The lower age limit is 14 years.

Phil, who was a keen fell runner in the Lake District before moving to Devon, said the Sourton race in particular was suitable for anyone interested in running, whatever their experience.
l Devon?s long-term champion and record holder Kevin Hagley saw his dominance ended at two Dartmoor fell runs last month.
The Chudleigh runner was beaten in both the Sticklepath and Belstone Cosden Hill runs by Richard Barrett, a member of Skipton Athletic Club on holiday in the area.
In a terrific battle, the visiting runner edged out Kevin by a narrow margin in both races which take place on consecutive days.
