TAVISTOCK Pannier Market is now just about set for the complete TV experience, as the Victorian building next week takes centre stage in the filming of one of the BBC?s flagship programmes. The Antiques Roadshow is due to be filmed in the market next Wednesday, May 11, an event expected to draw a huge influx of visitors into the town. Mike Souttar, deputy market reeve, said hours of work have gone into preparation for the film crew?s visit, which begins on Sunday: ?The council?s works department did a splendid job over the weekend, blacking out all the windows in the market, because the crews use artificial lighting. ?They?ll be turning up in force on Sunday and then the big day will be on Wednesday. They do a little bit of pre-filming on Tuesday afternoon to test things out and I think they?re doing a Michael Aspel intro in the town on Tuesday. ?And on the Wednesday, some of the regular traders are running a town market on the square. Maria Jones of the farmers? market has been very helpful ? they are providing the stalls, so it will be nice and busy on the square.? Mr Souttar said there would be a big photographic display in the pannier market, so that people visiting the roadshow would be able to see what the market looked like on a normal trading day. He said leaflets advertising the Antiques Roadshow had been distributed in dozens of towns across Devon and Cornwall. ?The response to it has been absolutely amazing,? he said. Normal trading has been suspended in the market on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday due to the filming schedule ? the only business operating will be Bob?s Café. The Friday charter market takes place as usual, there is a craft market on Saturday and the quarterly antiques fair in the market and town hall on Sunday.
