OKEHAMPTON Library will lend its support to a national campaign to get the country's families reading together by asking parents and carers to pledge to read 20 books with their children during 2012.

Bookstart is the national early reading scheme which gives free books to babies and toddlers. In its 20 years the programme has given away 30 million free books since babies first started receiving the packs back in 1992.

Pledge cards to read 20 books in 2012 are available in in Okehampton Library and all of Devon County Council's libraries. Pledges can also also be made online at http://www.devon.gov.uk/libraries">www.devon.gov.uk/libraries
