CALLINGTON Library is getting ready to launch the 2010 Reading Challenge which will send children into orbit for an intergalactical adventure throughout the school holidays.

Children are invited to attend the Space Hop Big Launch on Saturday (July 10) to get them in the spirit for the summer reading challenge where they read six books or more during the holidays and collect a certificate and medal for their achievements.

Last year saw the 40th anniversary of the lunar landing which sparked huge interest in space and so this year's challenge will invite the young readers to read books with a space theme.

The stages of the challenge will be Blast Off, Space Chase and Lunar Landing with stickers to collect on the way.

Saturday's event from 10.30am to noon will include a visit from Callington Space Centre team including a talk from resident astronomer Clive Purchase, a hands on demonstration of the solar telescope and make your own space crafts and help to launch them.

There will also be a video introduction to the summer reading challenge by NASA space engineer Amber Gell from Houston who recently visited Callington library.

The event is free but spaces are limited so contact the library on 0300 1234111 for details.
