A SUPERB game of South Devon League cricket ended in a nail-biting finish on Sunday when Belstone travelled to Torquay.

The home side got off to a fine start with an opening partnership of 90 between Matthews (32) and Prail (56) before steady bowling by Belstone pegged them back to a reasonable 175 for 8 off 40 overs, with Chris Gomersall the pick of the attack with 4 for 35.

In reply, Belstone were struggling at 99 for 6, still needing 77 to win off 10 overs with only 4 wickets in hand. A rapid stand of 59 between Fraser Willis (34) and Gomersall (44) then swung the game Belstone's way so that at the start of the final over 3 runs were required with 3 wickets left. A golden duck, a scampered 2 and a run out brought the scores level and the last man in.

With all the Torquay fielders bar one saving the single Gomersall swung the last ball over their heads only to be caught by the only fielder in the deep — leaving the result a rare tie.

This Sunday Belstone welcome Roborough to Rew Meadow for another South Devon League Division 2 clash starting at 2.30pm.
