Carlsberg South Western League

Truro City 0

Tavistock 4

PRE-match reports suggested this would be a tricky away game for the Lambs to gain the three points to dislodge St Blazey from the top of the table.

They were quick into action to allay those fears and took an early lead with a twice taken penalty. A good move between Nathan Blamey, Jeff Babb and Steve Daymond saw defender Lee Patchett handle in the area. Truro keeper Duncan Ayres saved Paul Smith's spot kick but was judged to have moved before it was taken and Smith made no mistake with his second.

The Lambs increased their lead on the half-hour when John Gosling set up Lee Doncaster whose shot hit a post and rebounded to Steve Daymond to slot home.

The home side rarely troubled the Lambs and they wrapped the game up in emphatic style with two further goals. Gosling's one-two with Graeme Kirkup saw him cross for Chris Gott to score with a spectacular overhead kick and Doncaster got the fourth with two minutes remaining.

Tavistock 1

Callington 0

A GOAL from Mark Wall two minutes from time was all that separated the teams in this tense game at Langsford Park on Tuesday of last week.

A lively start saw both sides have good chances to open the scoring. Geoff Battam's free kick for the visitors was headed on and Pete Southcott coming in behind the defence could only put his shot into the side-netting from an acute angle.

Nathan Blamey saw his free kick palmed away by former Lambs keeper Kevin Moyle.

The Lambs created the better chances in the first half with Jeff Babb heading into the side-netting from a Paul Smith corner. John Gosling shot wide after Babb had chested the ball into his path and a fine solo run from Lee Beer saw mark Wall also off target.

But it was not all one-way for the Lambs as Meeds tipped over a ricochet shot, Blamey made a great block to deny Southcott and Mike Ruark shot wide after going clear in the area.

The second half started in similar fashion with Smith shooting wide in the first minute and another attempt went the same way when Babb headed down for Wall.

Callington looked to have settled for a draw bringing off front man Ruark but the Lambs had different ideas. Sub Lee Doncaster turned in the area to force Moyle to concede a corner and from it the ball was only half-cleared. Mark Wall lurking on the corner edge of the area sent in a high shot that deceived everyone to settle into the net and leave the Lambs delighted and Callington despondent.
