DESPITE recent rain and low temperatures, last Saturday heralded glorious sunshine for Bridestowe?s Ram Roast and fete on the village sporting green. The event was opened by local celebrity Tony Beard, the ?Wag from Widecombe?. Live music from, among others, One Point Five, The Beer Hunters and Brian Higbee, entertained everyone throughout the afternoon, with plenty to see and do at the numerous traditional stalls and table tops. Tug of war and children?s sports proved popular, as did wellie throwing and egg catching. There was also plenty to tempt palates with cream teas, the beer tent, ram baps and a barbecue. One of the most popular stands was that of the newly-formed South Devon Falconry Club, whose members had brought along their birds of prey and one of the most colourful stalls was that of Bridestowe and Sourton Follies, looked after by ?fairy? Diane Porter. A great afternoon was enjoyed by all and in excess of £2,700 was made, which will go towards Bridestowe?s new hall.
